The Damon System has been used by Dr. Thomas in our Poway Braces practice for over 10 years with amazing results. Typically, traditional braces require the patients come in for appointments every 4-6 weeks to re-tighten the wires into the braces. Our Poway Braces office routinely see our patients 10-12 weeks between the first 3-5 initial appointments allowing the teeth to align and straighten with the lightest and most gentle forces possible.
Damon braces do not require wires be tightened. The big difference between a Damon brace and a traditional brace is in how the wire is ‘tied” or placed into the bracket.
A Damon brace (bracket) has a door that is opened and closed thereby creating a tube in which the wire can slide without hindrance from anything pushing or ‘tightening’ it into the brace. The Damon System is not just a new product, it’s a whole new way of treating patients. Often, because of the use of this system, we are able to eliminate the need for palatal expanders and the extraction of teeth. However, because our goal is the best possible result no matter what treatment modality is involved, we occasionally use palatal expanders and recommend the removal of permanent teeth when only absolutely required. Damon braces do not avoid extractions, but greatly reduce the frequency in which they are recommended.
Dr. Thomas embraces the Six Elements Treatment Philosophy as developed by Dr. Larry Andrews – one of the all time leading Orthodontists in the history of Orthodontics.
Conventional braces on the left are tied in with elastics, which cause friction and pressure, making treatment slower and less comfortable. Damon braces use a slide mechanism to hold the wire, which allows teeth to move more freely, quickly and comfortably.
Damon braces are designed to be discreet, comfortable and easy to keep clean. Without the elastic ties which attract and collect plaque, Damon braces make dental hygiene easy during treatment.
